Alex Lindsay

Alex Lindsay is a Registered Professional Forester, Soil Scientist and Fertcare Accredited Adviser. As the Principal Consultant for Forsite Forestry, based in Innisfail, Alex has worked with clients throughout Queensland and interstate, on matters related to agronomy, carbon farming, farm forestry, land evaluation and vegetation management since 2012.

Prior to becoming a consultant Alex had lived and worked in central Queensland (Miriam Vale), western Queensland (Roma) and north Queensland (Mareeba) in a variety of forestry roles.

Alex has a working knowledge of several of the ERF vegetation methodologies, and has assisted several carbon companies and landholders evaluating and undertaking carbon projects. In particular, he has worked on several Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) method projects in south-west Queensland (Cunnamulla – Quilpie area), NSW and WA. This included negotiating project boundaries and evaluating the suitability of land, both from the viewpoint of the carbon project and the ongoing grazing business.

Alex has also provided advice related to the Afforestation and reforestation method, Farm forestry method and Environmental plantings methods in the Wet and Dry Tropics. The advice included providing realistic expectations of carbon sequestration potential, but also other production benefits through enhanced soil function, and shade for cattle.

More recently Alex has coordinated a Master Tree Grower course for landowners in the Wet Tropics, which included specific modules on carbon farming, and the tools available for landowners to undertake a preliminary assessment of their projects.

Alex is a member of the Asia-Pacific Extension Network. He works part-time in the sugarcane industry, assisting farmers to develop whole farm Nutrient Management Plans, and to implement farming practice changes designed to improve water quality. This role has given Alex an insight into the complex range of factors which landowners need to consider when making long-term decisions to change land management practices.
