On 28 July 2026 the Minister for Primary Industries announced new Queensland drought declarations and the reinstatement of Drought Carry-on Finance Loans and Emergency Drought Assistance Loans for eligible Queensland primary producers. Full details of these loans will be available once administrative arrangements are finalised. Coming from a farming and grazing family background, and have conducted mediations under the Queensland Farm Finance Strategy for many years. Over 90% of these have resulted in a negotiated agreement between Farmer and Lender. He was registered as a Queensland Law Society Approved Mediator in 1991, have taught mediation at University under-graduate and post- graduate levels, chaired the Queensland Law Society's Alternate Dispute Resolution Comittee, undertaken training of mediators in Australia and overseas, and acted as a consultant to the World Bank in mediation.
